Eduard Wiiralt (1898-1954) was an Estonian painter and graphic artist. He is considered one of the most significant artists of the 20th century in Estonia and was a pioneer of modern art in the country. Wiiralt studied art in Estonia, Finland, and Germany and was influenced by Expressionism and Surrealism. He created works in a wide range of mediums, including oil paintings, watercolors, graphics, drawings, and sculptures. His works often depicted mythological and surrealistic themes, and his graphic art became particularly well-known, with his most famous work being the graphic series "The Dance of Death." Wiiralt was awarded several international prizes for his artwork and is remembered as a truly outstanding artist by his contemporaries.
